After boarding a Boeing 777 at 3:am on Friday October 29, we arrived quite rested 14.5 hours later; 7:30 am Saturday the 30th. We lost Friday somewhere in the heavens! I have to say it was the most awesome flight – business class – separate cubicles with private television, reclining single chaise lounge which makes into a bed, white down duvet, cosmetic bag with everything from toothbrush and toothpaste to socks and sleeping mask! Oh and the food…amazing. I know we were in heaven! One small problem though. Greg has said he realizes this has set the standard to the way Judy would like to travel – truly spoiled.
The MTR, Mass Transit Railway is so easy to navigate. We made our way to our hotel very easily. Our room was not ready so we spent 4 hours walking around downtown Hong Kong – we are in Kowloon district. Wall to wall people on narrow streets and alleys, jumbo neon sign, laundry and air conditioners hanging out of high rises, red taxis everywhere, double decker buses and the most beautiful park in the centre of the city. Outside every store is a sales person inviting you in and people trying to sell you everything from watches and purses to who knows what. An extremely vibrant and busy city. Did I mention we had a latte at Starbuck’s??
Our room is very small to North American standards. We are currently having a break in our room - green tea and beer. I’m sure you can figure out who is having the beer! There are so many restaurants to chose from – unsure where we will go tonight for dinner or what we will be eating. Should be an interesting evening. I truly want to see the streets lit up with neon at night!
